“Finding a company culture that fits my parenthood isn’t a nice to have, it’s table stakes.” Senior UX Team Lead

Earlier this year, I started to piece together the talent tsunami that’s starting up: millions of women who were pushed from the workforce in 2020 are going to seek to come back as schools open in the fall. At the same time, studies show 50% of all employees are looking for new jobs.
Almost everyone I’m talking to says this time around, they’re absolutely prioritizing workplace culture and benefits, especially as it relates to parenting. They know what they want in their careers and lifestyle and doing everything they can to find a company that fits.

“Interviewing at this point in my career is a huge time, energy, and resource commitment. I can’t think of more important initial information for evaluating a company than workplace culture and benefits, and yet it’s completely impossible to find. If I knew there weren’t a fit from the start, I’d save so much energy with a more focused job search and feel more confident I wasn’t gambling.” – SA, Executive Director of Creative Services

And yet, this information is close to impossible to find. Public resources like Glassdoor don’t hone in on details parents want. There are some other anonymous review communities where people are mean on top of unhelpful.
You have to piece together info from public sources if it’s published at all. And because discrimination against parents (moms in particular) is rampant, a lot of us don’t dare ask about flexibility or culture in the interview.

“There is no way I can ask about work-life balance in an interview: I’m worried it’s immediate flag, unfortunately, and this company may not even see it that way, but strategically, it is very hard to find out about workplace culture before you join.” JJ, Global Head of Partnerships

So y’all know me- when I see a need and a way to fix it, we’re going to go for it.
I’m thrilled to share with you that I am launching Tablestakes- the only employer review platform and professional community specifically for parents.
If you are looking for a new job, just curious what it’s like at other companies, or want to shine a light on the great workplace you’re in, take 5 min to fill out our super simple anonymous survey and get first access to the platform.

“The support my company has given me this year as a parent in particular has saved my life. I’d recommend any parent work here.”

We’ve seen tons of surveys pour in already and something I’m thrilled about is how nuanced and helpful they are- it’s like shadowing a fellow parent for a day. AND so excitingly, there seem to be a lot of places that are doing a great job and actionable opportunities to improve that can only happen when we share.

So let’s do it. Let’s shine a light.
